no more A than B, no less A than B, none the 比較級 for (because) ～
必ず押さえておきたいこの３つの表現。
比較表現の中でも事前に承知していないと英文に突然出てきた場合に理解できない表現で、しかも問題として出現頻度の高い3つを取り上げます。
これは必ず身につけて置きたいところです。
公式のように暗記しておきましょう。
何度も説明していることですが、no more は否定のイメージ、no less は肯定のイメージで捉えると分かりやすい。
１．no more A than B
２．no less A than B
３．none the 比較級 for (because) ～
それでは例文と合わせて見ていきましょう。
１．no more A than B「B同様Aではない」
※thanの前後、両方否定しています。
A whale is no more a fish than a horse (is)
「くじらは馬が魚でないのと同様に魚ではない」
（「クジラ構文」とよく呼ばれています。）
I have no more knowledge than you.
「私はあなた同様に無知だ。」
She is no more a good singer than I am.
「彼女は私と同じで歌が上手ではありません。」
２．no less A than B「B同様Aだ」
※thanの前後、両方肯定しています。
Tomoko is no less charming than Eri is.
「朋子は恵理同様に魅力的だ。」
He is no less a man than we are.
「彼も俺たちと同じ人間だ。」
I wondered who the young man was, but it was no less a person than Hashimoto Sanai.
「どこの若造かと思ったが、それは橋本左内その人であった。」
３．none the 比較級 for (because) ～
「～だからといってちっとも（比較級）ではない」
Komura Jutaro was none the wealthier because he rose through the ranks to become the Foreign Minister.
「小村寿太郎は外務大臣になるほど出世したがちっとも裕福ではなかった。」
His story is none the less true because it sounds like a lie.
「彼の話は、嘘のように聞こえるが真実だ。」
Princess Kaguya was none the happier because she lived in the palace.
「かぐや姫は御殿に住んでいたがちっとも幸せではなかった。」
